General Information
General Description
Restored / Backdated 1984 911 Carrera Coupe. A/C and Radio delete. Power sunroof and windows. Original matching numbers drive train with matching engine, transmission, and VIN. This is a California Smog Legal vehicle with its California registration. This car is a personal build that was inspired by one of the all time greats – 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS Touring version. The car is Not intended to be an exact replica of the Carrera RS Touring, but the build was inspired by its ever lasting qualities of agility, lightness, balance, power, mechanical integrity, form following function, and classic Porsche design. Not for the purist, but will certainly be appreciated by those who enjoy the clean design and style of the long-hood cars, but prefer the advantages that the 3.2 liter Carreras provide with more modern mechanics, higher performance, and galvanized rust resistant body. The car was completed and has been maintained to very high standards with excellent fit and finish throughout. Many period correct details were thoughtfully applied during the build process and are highlighted below. The attached pictures represent the actual car in its current condition. Completed late summer 2012, the car still shows to a very high standard with a few small blemishes due to use. There are no known mechanical issues and all maintenance is up to date. Street driven only, never tracked or raced. The car is Climate control garaged, covered, and in a Collection of Porsches. sale AS-IS with no expressed warranty.
Restoration/Backdate Summary
The build started with a rust-free / accident free 1984 911 Carrera Coupe located in Texas purchased in 2011 with a clean AutoCheck history and most of its previous life spent in Atlanta, GA. The car had been painted black by a previous owner over the original factory gold – providing protection from any rust. The entire body including door jambs was stripped to bare metal with all glass, rubber moldings, trim, engine, transmission, interior, and exterior body panels removed. To complete the exterior backdate transformation, New Genuine Porsche steel front fenders were purchased along with New fiberglass front and rear bumpers, front hood, and a ducktail spoiler attached to the original steel engine lid frame, providing a factory fit. Body and body panels were professionally painted Porsche Continental Orange (L107) using 2-Stage PPG paint/clearcoat and epoxy primer. All original black anodized aluminum trim was stripped and polished. ’73 Porsche chrome door handles, mirror, and black steel engine lid cover were added to complete the correct period look. Period correct Carrera RS Touring “S” Deco trim was added to the front/rear bumpers and side sills. Interior was restored with new lightweight perlon carpets, custom black leather seats/door cards/door tops/dash, OEM 911 RS leather four-spoke 380mm steering wheel, hub, and leather “hockey puck” horn button. New sun visors and black/gray Cocoa mats were also added. Original headliner and rear seat upholstery were retained due to their excellent condition. All original VDO dials were refurbished by Palo Alto Speedometer. Exterior assembly includes all new rubber trims, moldings, gaskets, and European style lights and lenses. Headlights have been converted to European H4 with new interior reflective lenses and bulbs. All electrics work properly. Genuine Porsche 15” Fuchs wheels have been restored to correct RS finish by Harvey Weidman. Original 915 transmission was rebuilt with a RennShift performance shifter and coupler added. The car has a lowered to ROW aggressive stance with many new suspension components installed by Elephant Racing in Santa Clara, CA – set up for aggressive street driving while providing everyday usability. The total package is lightweight (~2,395 lbs ) and agile with outstanding real world performance while providing the classic Porsche 911 mechanical feel and sound.
